My mother was an author of children’s books. She got her MA in English Literature at the University of New Brunswick. I include here some relevant links to her writings.
CHILDREN’S BOOKS
Tall Pine Mystery (2002)
Tall Pine Mystery was Nan Doerksen’s fifth book written for children. Set in Thailand, the story features Fredericton children Kim and Sandee (aged 8 and 10), whose parents are working in an isolated tribal village. When the sisters, who attend school in Chiang Mai, visit their parents for the Christmas holiday, they stumble into mysterious secrets and exciting adventures. This action-packed, carefully researched story whets the appetite of children to learn more about distant peoples and cultures.

Appreciation from New Brunswick author Marilyn Lownes:
When asked “What is your favourite New Brunswick book, and why?”
ML replied…”For a children’s book, I’ve read a lot, and it’s really tough to say what my favourite was. I did enjoy Nan Doerksen’s books, Rats in the Sloop, and The Winter of Change. If you were to ask me the same question another time, though, I might have a different answer.”
The First Family Car (1986)
The Enns family was struggling to make ends meet during the pioneer days on the prairies. But hardships could never spoil the fun and laughter of the family. Read about the adventures of Nettie and her friends as they enjoy the outdoors, get sick eating too much, and play word games. Feel the thrill of young Jake as he experiences the joy of riding in their first family car. For ages 6-11. (59pp. illus. Kindred Press, 1986.)
